Common answers
How do I judge a petitioner?
Read the dossier, then swipe left to refuse or swipe right to admit. The two buttons underneath the card do exactly the same thing, so you can play one-handed or by tapping — whichever suits you.
Each night opens with the Crown's edicts. Judge inside them and you are paid a wage and your standing rises; judge outside them and it costs you coin and draws the court's eye. When two edicts collide, the positive one wins.
What are the four meters, and why did my vigil end?
Run any one of the four out and the vigil stops there, on the spot, with the ending that failure earns. That is the design, not a bug — there are fourteen endings and most of them are reached this way.

The Register, the Glass and the Search keep running out
Each of the three tools burns one measure of lamp oil, and you are given three or four a night. That budget is deliberate: the Register walks a seal back through the book, the Glass reads the face instead of the paper, and the Search opens whatever they are carrying.
Spending oil on somebody with nothing to hide is not a mistake — it is what the oil is for. A truth uncovered can flip the lawful answer entirely, but only if you actually looked. Relics bought from the vault bend this rule: one makes the first reading of a face each night free.
I lost my progress, or I want to erase it
Your game lives on your device and nowhere else — meters, standing, coin, relics, the gate ledger, the Chronicle, your marks of office and your chosen backdrop. There is no account, so there is nothing to sign back into and no cloud copy to restore.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. To wipe it deliberately, use “Burn the ledger” in the Guardroom — it clears everything immediately and cannot be undone.
Does Crown Guard work offline?
Yes. The whole game — seven nights, fifty-four petitioners, every scene and ending — plays with no connection at all. No account, no sign-in. A connection is only used to place an anonymous line on the long roll when a vigil ends.
Why does it ask for the camera or my photo library?
For exactly one feature: hanging your own backdrop behind the gate. The image you pick is resized and stored on your device only — it is never uploaded, never sent to the leaderboard and never leaves the app.
Declining either permission costs you nothing but that one feature.
What data leaves my device?
Very little, and none of it identifies you. When a vigil ends, an anonymous line — score, the display name you typed, rank, ending title and nights survived — is placed on the long roll. Earning a mark of office increments a counter. Anonymous usage events record which parts of the game are reached. These go to Google Firebase.
Crown Guard never collects contacts, location, health data, browsing history, advertising identifiers or your photo library beyond the single image you deliberately choose. There is no advertising, nothing is sold or shared for advertising, and there is no tracking across apps or websites.
Notifications, iPad and the crown:// link
If you allow them, Crown Guard schedules a few local notices about the next vigil, generated on your device. You can switch them off at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Crown Guard.
The game runs full screen on iPhone and iPad, portrait and landscape, re-laying the vigil
out rather than stretching it. Opening crown:// launches the app.
Something is wrong — how do I report it?
Use the petition below, or write to [email protected]. Please include your device (iPhone 15, iPad Air, …), your iOS version, the app version from the Guardroom, and which night and petitioner it happened on. A screenshot settles most questions in one round.
